Charit Creek Horse Trailhead Located at the power line
cut near the end of Fork Ridge Road, this horse trail is only
2 miles from the lodge. (See directions to Charit
Creek Trailhead; you'll come to the horse trailhead first.)
Mount your horse and turn left back onto Fork Ridge Road. Follow
the road until you approach the Charit Creek Trailhead parking
area. Instead of entering the parking area, bear left and continue
down Fork Ridge Road. When you come to the motorized vehicle
barrier, go around it. This trail is actually the emergency
access road to Charit Creek Lodge. You'll find it steep and
curvy, but it is well maintained.
Bandy Creek Campground From the stables at Bandy Creek
Campground, you can either take the horse trail to Jack's Ridge
Trailhead or ride along the gravel portion of Bandy Creek Campground
Road as described under the Bandy Creek hiking directions. (There's
not adequate parking at Jack's Ridge for trailers). The trail
crosses Laurel Fork Branch, continues upstream along Black House
Branch, and climbs to the ridge top where it joins the trail
near the end of Fork Ridge Road. Bandy Creek to Charit Creek
is about 7 miles.
Duncan Hollow Trail From Bandy Creek Campground follow
Duncan Hollow Road (a four-wheel-drive road that turns into
a horse trail about 4.5 miles into the trip). When you reach
Laurel Fork (6 miles from start), ford it and turn left, taking
Station Camp Creek Trail 3.5 miles until you reach Fork Ridge
Road. Turn right onto Fork Ridge Road. In a short distance,
you'll see the parking area for Charit Creek Hostel Trail; bear
left (parking area will be on your right), and continue down
the road. When you come to the motorized vehicle barrier, go
around it. This trail is actually the emergency access road
to Charit Creek Lodge. It is steep but well maintained. You'll
reach Charit Creek Lodge in approximately 1.5 miles. |
